Erdogan To Take Part In C.O.E. Summit In Warsaw

STRASBOURG (AA) - Council of Europe (COE) Heads of State and Government Summit will be held on May 16th and 17th in the Polish capital, Warsaw.
     Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will take part in the Summit.
     The goal of the meeting is to make sure that the Council of Europe's activities are relevant to the 800 million citizens who live in its 46 member states and that its work addresses the challenges they face in the new century. It will also define the Council's future goals and priorities. The summit will reinforce the Council of Europe's role within the new European and global environment at the highest political level.
     The Summit is also expected to:
     - Confirm and strengthen the Council's key mission to safeguard and promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law all over the continent;
     - Develop pan-European political dialogue at intergovernmental, inter-parliamentary and regional/local level;
     - Implement the reform of the European Court of Human Rights, including more efficient processing of applications as well as speeding up the decision-making process at the Court;
     - Foster Council of Europe action aimed at promoting social cohesion, intercultural dialogue and democratic citizenship;
     - Strengthen relations and co-operation with the European Union, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the United Nations.
     The following issues are expected to come under close consideration in the context of the Summit : trafficking of human beings, terrorism, the protection of national minorities, money laundering, corruption, organized crime, violence against children, use of the Internet, free movement of Europeans across the continent, migration and displacement issues.
