ISTANBUL (AA) - Czech President Vaclav Klaus supported on Wednesday Turkey`s European Union (EU) membership.
Holding a press conference in Turkish commercial hub of Istanbul, Klaus, who will attend ``Forum Istanbul``, said, ``I support a free and integrated Europe, and countries which want to join the EU. I am against a closed EU, and those who back and work for a closed EU.``
Klaus also said, ``I am also against those who give priority to political matters, and use them as a trump. So, I am supporting a country like Turkey, which has a rich cultural heritage, in the EU.``
Underlining positive relations between Czech Republic and Turkey, Klaus hoped that cooperation of the two countries would also continue in the future.
