MUNICH, Germany - Iranian international forward Ali Karimi, voted Asia's top player last year, is set to join German champions Bayern Munich on a renewable one-year deal as of next season, the club said Tuesday.
The 26-year-old, who has been nicknamed "Asia's Maradona" - in reference to Argentine football great Diego - currently plays for Dubai club Al-Ahli.
He has scored 32 goals in 87 appearances for Iran and his CV appears to have made the grade with Bayern manager Felix Magath, who said: "Ali Karimi is an offensive-minded player who is fast, flexible and dangerous when he's in fron of goal."
