ANKARA - Peaceful demonstrations were attended by almost 194,500 people throughout Turkey to mark May Day (Labor Day), but police detained 66 people in illegal rallies.
Turkish Police Department stated that peaceful demonstrations took place in 48 cities and 9 towns in Turkey and they were attended by nearly 193,000 people, and 19 press releases were made in 15 cities and 1 town with the participation of nearly 1,500 people.
Police detained 59 people who attempted to hold illegal demonstration at Istanbul's Taksim Square and 7 people were arrested in eastern city of Batman for holding an illegal rally.
