The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Mehmet Ali Talat asked the United Nations (UN) Secretary General to take initiative on the Cyprus issue and to send a special representative to the island.
President Talat said that the Cyprus dispute will be overcome within his 5 year term and an agreement will be signed during this period. He noted: "This is the reason why I am here, and this is my mission."
Talat disclosed in his statement to Turkish Agency-Cyprus (TAK) that he plans to make an official visit to Turkey after the new government wins a vote of confidence.
