LEFKOSA - Mehmet Ali Talat, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), requested UN Secretary General to undertake initiatives on Cyprus issue or to send a special envoy to Cyprus.
Speaking to Turkish News Agency Cyprus (TAK), Talat expressed belief that Cyprus question would be solved during his 5-year term in office.
Talat also said he was planning to pay an official visit to Turkey.
Talat said they were trying to determine new policies, noting that through their representative in Cyprus, he conveyed their demands to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Talat said he met Annan's representative on Cyprus and wanted Annan to send a high ranking official to the Island to launch an initiative for solution of Cyprus question.
Talat said he also expressed readiness to discuss daily problems, apart from those about Cyprus, with the Greek Cypriot side. ''New stances and policies will be determined according to the reply we will get.''
