ISTANBUL - Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul has indicated yesterday (Saturday) that many terrorist groups, including PKK, are a matter of concern for Turkey. ''In our meeting with the neighbors of Iraq, we focused on the need for strong cooperation in facilitating the best possible border security,'' told Gul.
In a press conference organized after the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Countries Neighboring Iraq, Gul remarked that every one involved must have strong cooperation, provide utmost security for border security. ''It is apparent that the issue of security has become a matter of concern for Iraq's neighbors. More and more terrorist activities are being carried out by a narrower group,'' said Gul.
Gul stressed that the United Nations has a prominent role in Iraq. ''It is not merely the UN's duty to preserve the constitutional process in Iraq but all of Iraq,'' expressed Gul.
Gul commented that the meeting of Iraq's neighbors took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. ''We have not had any arguments among ministers. Our meeting was very open, sincere and successful,'' stated Gul.
Meanwhile, Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has mentioned that his government is doing all it can to include all segments of the Iraqi society in the national political process. ''Despite all setbacks, democracy in Iraq is continuing on the right track. The support of our neighbors is essential for the success of democracy in Iraq,'' added Zebari.
