ISTANBUL - The second day of the 8th meetings of countries neighboring Iraq started in Istanbul's Dolmabahce Palace on Saturday.
The foreign ministers of Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are in attendance at the meeting.
UN Special Envoy to Iraq Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, and Christian Leffler, the director for the Middle East & Southern Mediterranean at the European Commission, are also attending the meeting.
The draft communique to be approved at the end of the meeting welcomes formation of the new government in Iraq, and expresses support for the new government and the political process.
The communique says that the political transition process should be completed in a transparent and democratic way with the participation of all sections.
Highlighting importance of sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity of Iraq, the communique says that the Iraqi people should determine their own future freely and have full control over natural and financial resources of the country.
The communique underlines that members of former Iraqi administration who committed crimes of humanity against Iraqi people and war crimes against Kuwait and Iran should be brought to justice.
Highlighting importance of role of the United Nations in Iraq, the communique says that the United Nations should undertake a broader role in political process and economic rehabilitation of the country.
Underlining the need for providing security and stability in Iraq, the communique expresses determination to increase cooperation with Iraq for security of borders.
It says that the multi-national force in Iraq should abide by international human rights and the Geneva Convention.
The communique reiterates that foreign debts of Iraq should be either written off or diminished.
