ANTALYA - Deniz Baykal, the leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), qualified the proposal made by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Armenian President Robert Kocharian (to form a joint committee comprised of historians of the two countries to examine the archives) as positive.
Baykal told A.A correspondent, ''this proposal is the common proposal of CHP and the government. And, I think some developments may occur in coming days.''
''We are ready to open our archives, and we are not evading from the realities of the past. We want this topic be researched,'' said Baykal.
Baykal added that Turkish citizens living in Europe should be informed, and take action against the initiatives in these countries aiming at recognizing the so-called Armenian genocide allegations.
