ANKARA - Turkey on Thursday welcomed conclusion of studies aiming to form a government in Iraq.
Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement, ''coming of an elected government to power constitutes a step forward to establish a democratic regime in Iraq. Turkey wishes success to the new government which will undertake important responsibilities in political transition process.''
The statement said, ''time has come to reach a national compromise, heal the wounds and create joint future for Iraqi people.''
Pointing out that Iraqi constitution will start to be written in the coming period, the statement said, ''participation of all sections of the Iraqi society, protecting national interests, and acting in unity as regards the solution of issues pertaining to Iraq's future are very important. We expect the UN to play an active role in line with resolution 1546 of the Security Council.''
The statement said Turkey will support all the steps that may help Iraq reach stability.
