EU confirms decision to launch probe into Chinese textile imports

BRUSSELS - The European Union executive commission said Thursday it had decided to launch an investigation into surging Chinese clothing imports.
"The European Commission has decided to launch an investigation into Chinese textile imports to the EU in nine product categories, as proposed by Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson," the commission said in a statement.
The investigation marks the first step towards imposing limits on Chinese textiles, which have boomed since the end of an international quota system at the beginning of the year.
The probe would be launched on Friday and would last for a maximum of 60 days, the commission said.
