LONDON - US businessman Malcolm Glazer has been given an ultimatum over his proposed bid to buy Manchester United, the English Premiership club confirmed on Thursday.
Glazer has until midday on Tuesday, May 17 to announce whether he plans to launch a bid or not, and no extension to this deadline will be granted.
The US tycoon has been in talks with Manchester United over a potential 800 million pounds (1.5 billion dollars) bid for the world's richest football club.
A statement from the club read: "The board of Manchester United plc welcomes the announcement by the takeover panel of a deadline of May 17, 2005 for the Glazer Family Limited Partnership either to announce a firm intention to make an offer for the company under rule 2.5 of the city code or to announce that it does not intend to make an offer for the company."
