BERLIN - Germany assistant coach Oliver Bierhoff has advised troubled midfielder Sebastian Deisler to leave Bayern Munich to enhance his chances of playing a pivotal role for hosts Germany in the 2006 World Cup.
Deisler, 25, has started just seven games for Bayern this season and Bierhoff claims the gifted playmaker needs a move to get back on the straight and narrow.
"Sebastian (Deisler) needs to think about his current situation," Bierhoff told magazine SportBild.
"In his case it would be better for him to play for a club such as SV Hamburg ahead of the World Cup as he would be an important player."
Deisler was regarded as the golden boy of German football when he arrived on the scene as a 17-year-old at Borussia Monchengladbach but since joining Bayern in 2001 his fragile mental state has curtailed his career.
In November 2003 the former Hertha Berlin ace was diagnosed with depression and he was readmitted to the Max-Planck-Institute for Pyschiatry in Munich on October 2004 after it became clear that he was still having problems.
Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann has already held talks with Bayern manager Felix Magath about Deisler and Munich have admitted they are willing to loan out the German international if he agrees.
