DAMASCUS - Syria's official press said Wednesday it did not expect any let-up in international pressure on Damascus despite its troop pullout from Lebanon after 29 years of domination.
"The mounting attacks and pressure on Syria and Lebanon will continue, even though our forces have withdrawn from Lebanon," the government newspaper Tishrin said.
The last Syrian troop left Lebanese soil on Tuesday after President Bashar al-Assad's regime came under intense international pressure to end its dominant role in its smaller neigbbour.
"Events in Iraq, the ongoing liquidation of the Palestinian people and the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri are forewarnings of even more terrible things to come such as the US plan for a 'Greater Middle East' which involves carving up the Middle East into mini-states," it charged.
"Those who accuse us of failing to understand the (international) changes and always talking about conspiracy theories should look again at the plans of the American neo-conservatives who run the United States and the planet.
"The events since (the US-led war on) Afghanistan right up to Lebanon amount to the implementation of the strategies of these neo-conservatives and the Israelis," Tishrin said.
