CHICAGO - A United Airlines flight was diverted to Chicago Tuesday after a passenger spotted a suspicious package onboard.
The flight from New York to San Francisco landed at Chicago's O'Hare airport without incident at 10:38 am (1538 GMT) to allow a bomb squad to search the plane. It was back in the air at 1:25 pm (1825 GMT) after police discovered medications and an electronic device that may have been an MP3 player in the suspicious bag.
"This is exactly what passengers are encouraged to do if they spot something suspicious," said Monique Bond, spokeswoman for the City of Chicago's Office of Emergency Management.
The passenger who had brought the medication on board was questioned and released, Bond said.
