JERUSALEM - Two homemade Qassam rockets of the type used by Palestinian militants exploded Tuesday in southern Israel around the town of Sderot near the Gaza Strip, without causing casualties or damage, police said.
They said the rockets fired from inside Gaza landed in an empty lot in Sderot and near an entrance to the town.
The attack came despite a pledge by the main Palestinian militant groups in March to respect a period of calm until the end of the year on condition that Israel halts its attacks.
The Qassam rockets are manufactured by the armed wing of the radical Islamic group Hamas.
