ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Monday that the period in which the capabilities of the Incirlik Base may be used has been extended for one year.
Replying to a question regarding the usage of Incirlik Base by the United States, Gul told reporters prior to his departure for Luxembourg, ''the duration has been extended with the decision of Council of Ministers.''
Noting that facilities were provided for usage of the base within the scope of the United Nations and NATO, Gul said the necessary political directives have been issued.
Gul remarked that the Turkish General Staff will make some technical preparations in regard to Incirlik.

In our meeting, we will evaluate the upcoming term in which accession talks will begin, said Gul. ''I will inform our interlocutors on the economic reforms and steps taken by Turkey,'' stressed Gul.
Gul indicated that acquisitions adjustment and financial cooperation will be reviewed. ''In reference to the adjustment protocol, Turkey has completed negotiations with the Commission and has informed its consent on the document. We are waiting for the EU to complete its procedures before we can sign the protocol,'' told Gul. ''Once the EU is ready, we will sign the protocol with the term president.''
Minister Gul added that the issue of trade with the EU will come up at the meeting. ''We will bring up the issue of visas for Turkish businessmen and businesswomen. I am going to request more efforts from the EU nations for solutions. I will also bring up problems encountered by Turkish truck drivers,'' mentioned Gul.
