VILNIUS - ''Armenia has not replied Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's letter yet'', Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Thursday.
Gul held a press conference after completing his meetings in Lithuanian capital of Vilnius where he attended the informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
Quoting his Polish counterpart Adam Daniel Rotfeld as saying that the Polish parliament was caught unprepared to the resolution adopted on the so-called Armenian genocide allegations the previous day, Gul said, ''Mr. Minister said that this was political stance of some parliamentarians. He recalled that the parliament speaker was the former foreign minister. He said that he did his best but he could not prevent such a decision. He also said that the government is not thinking the same and has always expressed this thought. He said this was a resolution passed when a small group found the parliament empty.''
Touching on these allegations, Gul said, ''we are sure about ourselves, so we can search these allegations. We have said that we have opened our state archives, and so other concerned countries should also open their archives. All these archives should be searched by scientists, and we also say that these scientists can be independent.''
Gul stated that it was impossible for Turkey to accept these allegations because they were politicized and made a tool for propaganda against Turkey.
''It is not possible for us to say that a non-existent thing happened during the rule of the Ottomans, not the rule of Republic of Turkey. It is not possible for us to darken our ancestors. Therefore, we are not uneasy with the researches on this matter,'' added Gul.
