BAGHDAD - US troops on Thursday shot dead a woman suspected of having carried out a bomb attack on one of their convoys in central Iraq, a US military statement said.
One US soldier was wounded in the blast as the convoy drove through a rural area on the outskirts of Ramadi, some 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of the capital, it said.
"The machine gunner in the last vehicle of the convoy spotted a group of Iraqis at the ambush site" and fired at them, wounding a woman in the leg, the statement said. She later died of her wounds.
Soldiers found an electronic device next to the women that is believed to have been used to detonate the bomb.
