ANKARA - Latvian Transportation & Communication Minister Ainars Slesers visited Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim in Ankara on Tuesday.
Two ministers discussed relations between transportation sectors of Turkey and Latvia.
Following the meeting, Yildirim told reporters, ''trade volume between Turkey and Latvia is very low. This visit will be very important in terms of increasing this volume.''
''It seems possible to cooperate in highway, port and railway transportation. We are determined to develop relations in every aspect,'' added Yildirim.
Meanwhile, Slesers said, ''we have taken up transportation and communication facilities of our two countries. We also discussed how we can more actively use these facilities in development of relations.''
''Start of direct flights between Riga and Istanbul as of today is a very important development. We also decided to open an embassy in Turkey,'' Slesers added.
Slesers noted, ''Latvia gives full support to Turkey's EU membership. We hope entry talks would be completed successfully.''
