ANKARA - Turkey would continue to cooperate with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the new era (that started after election of new president), Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering of his ruling Justice & Development Party (AKP) at the parliament, Erdogan said that TRNC, which was approaching positively towards expectations of the international community for solution of Cyprus problem, should start to be seen by the world.
''Unjust sanctions imposed on TRNC have not been lifted yet, and this is the biggest contradiction in the world,'' added Erdogan.
Mehmet Ali Talat, the current prime minister of TRNC, was elected as the new president of TRNC last Sunday.
-TURKEY'S EU MEMBERSHIP BID-
Touching on Turkey's European Union (EU) membership bid, Erdogan said that Turkey continued its sincere efforts to become an EU member, and noted, ''we should be well-prepared for negotiations to be launched on October 3rd.''
Erdogan added, ''every good-willed person, who want to have a positive impact on the future of both EU and Turkey, should make positive contributions to this bid (Turkey's EU membership bid). We shouldn't forget that not only Turkey but also the EU will benefit from Turkey's EU membership. I believe that we will understand each other better during negotiations, and we can clearly show them what we can add to their civilization.''
