Kaya Resigns From Deputyship

ANKARA - Cemal Kaya, a deputy of the ruling Justice & Development Party (AKP), said on Tuesday that he resigned from deputyship.
Holding a news conference, Kaya said, ''I want to resign from deputyship in order to defend myself before the independent jurisdiction, prove my innocence and protect my individual rights.''
Earlier, a summary of examination was submitted against Kaya in connection with alleged energy corruption.
In accordance with the Article 84 of the Constitution arranging loss of membership of a deputy, bureau of the Turkish Parliament attests to the validity of the resignation first. Later, the resignation is put to vote, and requires absolute majority (276) of the total number of members.
