ATHENS - A small plane of the national Greek carrier Olympic Airlines en route to the island of Mikonos had to turn back Monday and make an emergency landing at Athens following a technical problem, the company said.
The pilot of the ATR 70 aircraft, which was carrying 43 passengers and four crew members, reported a problem with the landing gear as he was getting ready to land at Mikonos airport, where strong winds were blowing, an airline spokesperson said.
The plane landed safely at Eleftheros Venizelos airport in Athens at 8:15 pm (1715 GMT), where precautionary security measures had been taken, the spokesperson said.
