United States Congratulates Talat For His Victory In Elections

LEFKOSA - The United States congratulated Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for his victory in the presidential elections.
U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said, ''the United States welcomes this reaffirmation by Turkish Cypriots of their commitment to a comprehensive solution and reunification of the island. We look forward to working with all interested parties to this end.''
Talat won 56 percent of the vote for president of the TRNC while his main rival Dervis Eroglu polled just 23 percent, according to unofficial results with all of the ballot boxes counted.
