ANKARA - South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun's visit to Turkey was not only for the interests of the two countries, but also contributed to regional and international peace, stability and prosperity, Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said on Friday.
Sezer and visiting South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun held a joint press conference after their meeting.
President Sezer said that they discussed bilateral relations, and stressed, ''Roh's visit is the first visit paid by South Korean president to Turkey since 1957, when diplomatic relations were established between our country and South Korea.''
Sezer noted that they also discussed regional and international matters, and exchanged views on how to enhance cooperation.
Underlining importance of South Korea for its region and the world, Sezer said that this country had an effective role on developments in Asia and contributed to development, peace and stability of its region.
Sezer said that they also discussed recent situation in Iraq, and noted, ''we discussed steps that can be taken to eliminate problems of Iraqi people.''
Pointing out that South Korea was among the biggest 20 economies in the world together with Turkey, Sezer said that this country was a significant economic and trade partner of Turkey.
Sezer expressed belief that South Korean investors would show more interest in Turkey after Roh's visit, and underlined importance of improvement of cultural activities and tourism between the two countries.
