Baykal: Iraq Should Stop Being Centre Of Terrorist Attacks Against Turkey

ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Thursday that if the new political authority in Iraq wanted to improve relations with Turkey, Iraq should stop being a centre of terrorist attacks against Turkey.
Issuing a written statement, Baykal expressed concern about the existence of the terrorist organisation PKK in the north of Iraq and the news saying that the terrorists were preparing to launch attacks in the southeast of Turkey.
''There is a need to assess the situation seriously once again. The existence of PKK in the north of Iraq will continue to be an importance issue in this regard. The new regime in Iraq should show an attitude against the presence of those terrorists and should not permit Iraq to be a centre of attacks against Turkey if it wants to develop relations with Turkey. Effective measures should be taken both by the new Iraqi regime and also by the United States,'' Baykal commented.
