WASHINGTON - Outgoing World Bank chief James Wolfensohn will be named special representative of the so-called Middle East "quartet" with the task of helping pave the way for Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, a diplomatic source said Thursday.
US President George W. Bush's administration was to announce the nomination shortly, according to the source, who requested anonymity.
The Australian-born Wolfensohn, a US citizen, is slated to leave his post at the World Bank on May 31 after a 10-year tenure, and be replaced by Deputy US Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz.
