Erdogan: There Is Not Any Official Information On Retrial Of Ocalan

ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that there was not any official information whether the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided to retry Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization PKK.
Replying to questions of journalists, Prime Minister Erdogan said, ''there is not any official information. If we receive information, we make the necessary statement.''
Ocalan was sentenced to death penalty in 1999. After the Turkish parliament resolved to abolish the death penalty in peacetime, Ocalan's death penalty was commuted to life imprisonment in 2002.
His lawyers who claimed that their client had not received a fair trial lodged an application with the ECHR in 1999. A hearing was held, and the case was declared partly admissible.
