ANKARA - High Tribunal continued on Tuesday to hear the lawsuit in which Cumhur Ersumer and Zeki Cakan, two former energy & natural resources ministers, are being tried on charges of abusing their powers.
The High Tribunal listened Sukru Elekdag, a parliamentarian from the (main opposition) Republican People's Party (CHP), as witness in the morning session.
Underlining strategic and economic importance of Turkmen Gas Project for Turkey, Elekdag claimed that delay in this project and implementation of the Blue Stream (natural gas) Project caused economic, political and strategic losses for Turkey.
On the other hand, Ersumer said that Turkmen gas could not be brought to Turkey due to Turkmenistan, and claimed that Turkey had fulfilled its liabilities regarding this project.
Both Ersumer and Cakan are accused of alleged irregularities and abusing powers by implementing wrong and illegal energy policies that caused the state to lose money.
The two politicians could face 10 years in prison if convicted.
