Chinese protest against Japan

In China, there have been fresh protests against Japan. Local media report that thousands of protesters took to the streets of two southern cities. A couple of thousand people gathered outside of the Japanese consulate in Guangzhou, with some protesters trying to break through a police barricade. In the nearby city Shenzhen, a group of about 500 demonstrators chanted anti-Japan slogans and threw paint and plastic bottles at Japanese restaurants. This comes a day after a demonstration involving thousands in Beijing turned violent. Anti-Japan sentiment has been running high since Tokyo approved a school textbook that critics say whitewashes the brutal Japanese occupation of China from 1931 to 1945.
