Seven truckers wounded in attack in northern Iraq: report

ANKARA - Seven Turkish truck drivers were wounded in an attack by unidentified assailants on their convoy near the oil-rich city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, Turkish television channels reported Friday.
Six tankers were burnt in the attack late Thursday on the road from Kirkuk to Arbil, the CNN-Turk news channel said.
The truckers, one of whom was wounded seriously, were sent to the northern city of Sulaimaniyah for treatment, the NTV news channel said.
Turkish truckers shipping goods to Iraq have increasingly become the targets of kidnappers and gunmen, prompting Ankara to seek enhanced security measures for its nationals in the war-torn country.
About 80 Turks, mostly truck drivers, have been killed in road attacks or at the hands of hostage-takers in Iraq.
