MUNICH - Turkish Deputy Prime Minister & State Minister Abdullatif Sener said on Friday that the amount of environment investment which Turkey should undertake to abide by EU standards has reached 40 billion Euros.
Sener who attended Turkey-Bavaria Environment Forum organised by Munich Trade Chamber, said that a common working group was formed for environment investment and he would give information about the environment problems in Turkey at the Forum.
''We should benefit at the maximum level from EU funds, donations to finance the investment we should undertake in field of environment. In that respect the Forum is important for us to exchange views in this issue,'' said Sener.
Addressing the Forum, Sener said that international cooperation was necessary to find solutions to environmental problems. Noting that Turkey plays an active role in that international cooperation, Sener said that Turkey's abiding by the EU environmental laws was important for its EU bid.
Sener also remarked that decentralisation was crucial regarding Turkey's efforts to abide by EU acquis.
In his speech, Sener also stated that the German KfW provided finance worth of 700 million Euros to projects of 20 Turkish municipalities in 15 years within the context of German-Turkish financial cooperation.
Sener thanked Germany for the financial and technical assistance it provided to Turkey.
