ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has departed on Thursday for Italy to attend the funeral for late Pope John Paul II.
Erdogan talked to press corps prior to his departure from Ankara's Esenboga Airport.
''Pope's funeral will be attended by global dignitaries. The Pope was not just a leader of the Catholic church. He was a man who always prayed and worked for international peace and dialogue. On behalf of myself, my administration and the Turkish people, I offer my deep sorrow for the demise of the late Pope.'' Erdogan said.
