ANKARA - 1,107,260 tourists visited Turkey in March 2005, Turkish Culture & Tourism Ministry said on Wednesday.
The Ministry stated that the number of foreign visitors increased by 41.2 percent in March of 2005 when compared with March of 2004.
According to figures released by the Ministry, the number of visitors from OECD member countries increased by 53.99 percent, while the rise in number of tourists coming from East European countries was 16.88 percent.
Germany was ranked the first among countries sending the highest number of tourists to Turkey. Bulgaria, Iran, Greece, Russian Federation, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Britain, France, Switzerland, Georgia, Belgium, the United States, Austria and Israel followed Germany.
On the other hand, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey rose by 30.04 percent between January and March 2005, over to the same quarter of the previous year. 2,504,029 foreigners visited Turkey in this period.
Germans again were the first among foreigners visiting Turkey between January and March 2005, while they were followed by Bulgarians and Iranians.
