URGUP - Soil was sent from Cappadocia on Wednesday for the grave of Pope John Paul II, the spiritual leader of the Catholic World.
Urgup Mayor Bekir Odemis said many civilizations, religions, languages, races and sects had lived in Cappadocia for centuries.
Cappadocia is accepted as ``holy territories`` by Christians, Odemis said and added that, ``we have many times invited the Pope to Cappadocia but he could not come because of his illness. We would be honored with the visit of the Pope.``
Odemis said they conveyed their wish to Vatican`s Embassy in Ankara to send Cappadocia soil, and noted that, ``the embassy thanked for our close interest. We have sent the soil to Vatican.``
