LEFKOSA - ''We should not live in an imaginary world. People should be told the truth. There are opportunities,'' Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas said on Wednesday.
In an exclusive interview with A.A correspondent, Serdar Denktas referred to the statements of TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat that he (Talat) would ''demolish the status quo''. Denktas said Talat would not be able to demolish the status quo and that the status quo would continue.
Denktas said solution of Cyprus question did not depend only on the Turkish and Greek Cypriots but also the countries that were side to the problem.
Denktas said the solution should be permanent and noted that, ''we should recognize our deficiencies and determine policy accordingly.''
Denktas said change of the President would not change the policy they have been pursuing on Cyprus, and stressed that, ''nothing will change unless Greek Cypriots change.''
Serdar Denktas said, ''we should discuss what would be our way out if Greek Cypriots do not want a solution.''
''A new process will bring a new referendum,'' Denktas said emphasizing that, ''we should get rid of a solution model dependent upon Greek Cypriots.''
Denktas stressed he was hopeless that the European Union (EU) would remove the blockade on Turkish Cypriots, noting that EU defended the interests of its members.
