Rome overwhelmed by crowds: Italian official

ROME - The city of Rome has been overwhelmed by well over one million pilgrims and "can't take any more," a senior Italian official said Wednesday as masses thronged outside the Vatican to view the body of Pope John Paul II.
Pilgrims staying in tent cities on the outskirts of the Italian capital are urged to stay put, said special security commissioner Guido Bertolaso.
The queue waiting to go into St Peter's Basilica to pay homage to the late pope will be cut off at 10:00 pm (2000 GMT), the Vatican announced earlier.
