ISTANBUL - Six schoolboys were injured in Turkey's biggest city Istanbul on Wednesday when items of military equipment they had found exploded, officials said.
Istanbul police chief Celalettin Cerrah said the boys had unearthed a bag containing 14 items buried in an empty lot near their school in the neighborhood of Gaziosmanpasa, on the city's European side, Anatolia news agency reported.
The explosion ocurred when the boys hit a metal object on the ground, Cerrah said.
Two of the teenagers were in serious condition.
The nature of the materials the boys had found was not immediately clear, Cerrah said.
