BAGHDAD - Iraq's detained former dictator Saddam Hussein and 11 top aides will watch on television Wednesday's parliamentary session to choose the country's first freely-elected president, Human Rights Minister Bakhtiar Amin said.
"I decided that Saddam and the 11 others will watch it on the television," Amin told AFP.
"There will be a place in jail for Saddam and the 11 to watch the TV to understand their time is finished, there is a new Iraq and that they are no longer ruling the country; so they can understand that in the new Iraq, people are elected and they are not coming to power by a coup d'etat."
Saddam and his aides are being held at the US prison Camp Cropper at Baghdad airport and face trial on charges of crimes of humanity.
Saddam, who was captured in December 2003 after his regime fell in April that year three weeks after the US-led invasion, could be hauled into the dock later this year.
