Two suspected guerrillas, child killed in republic near Chechnya

MOSCOW - Two suspected guerrillas and a neighbor's small child were killed in a shootout in Dagestan, a Russian republic bordering the war-torn Chechnya, the ITAR-TASS news agency reported Wednesday quoting police officials.
The suspects, one of whom was identified as Anvar Visayev, opened fire on the policemen, wounding one, officials in the city of Khasavyurt said, adding that in the neighboring apartment a three-year-old boy was killed and his mother wounded in the resulting clash.
Visayev had served in the rebel guerrilla band in Chechnya and had been on the police's blacklist since November 2003, officials added.
Clashes and attacks against law enforcement troops have become common in Dagestan bordering to the east Chechnya, where a war between separatists and pro-Moscow forces has raged for more than five years.
