Mumcu elected ANAP leader

An extremely interesting turn of events happened at the Motherland Party (ANAP) congress over the weekend. Erkan Mumcu, a recently defected member of the Cabinet and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) was elected leader of the party.
Speaking to delegates at the party congress, Mumcu criticized Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the government. Mumcu addressed Erdogan's criticisms on deputies who leave AKP to join other parties saying that many members of the Republican people's Party (CHP) had joined AKP.
Mumcu defended democracy in Turkey saying: "My colleagues are coming to ANAP to fight for honorable democracy. We'll not be ordered to obey those with an inferiority complex and a lack of knowledge who are ordering others around."
