PARIS - Iranian President Mohammad Khatami placed the US administration on the same footing as Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organisations, telling a UN meeting in Paris on Tuesday that both were guilty of trying to impose their views on the world.
"War and terrorism have the same root. Both use violence to attain the same narrow objectives," Khatami told delegates at a conference on dialogue between civilisations at the UN's cultural organisation UNESCO.
"Expansionism, occupation, war, terrorism -- all of that has its origins in the same mistaken vision ... in Aghanistan and in the White House too," he said.
"I condemn war as I condemn terrorism. In both, people consider themselves at the centre of the world and try to impose their views on the whole of humanity," he said.
