Orthodox patriarch to attend funeral of Pope John Paul II

The Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew announced Monday that he will attend the funeral of Pope John Paul II, who passed away on Saturday.
A written statement issued by the Patriarchate praised the late Roman Catholic leader as having a vision of global peace and unity of Christians.
“The Pope left deep traces with his efforts for peace, sensitivity for justice, and bold initiatives throughout his 27-year mission.”
