Moldovan parliament re-elects pro-Western Voronin as president

CHISINAU - Moldova's parliament on Monday re-elected Vladimir Voronin, a pro-Western leader of the Communist party, to a second term as president of the impoverished ex-Soviet republic.
Voronin received 75 votes in the 101-seat chamber, well above the 61 needed, said Mikhail Sidorov, the chief of the parliamentary election committee.
The 63-year-old Voronin has led Moldova since 2001, when his Communist party swept to power in a landslide on a pro-Russia ticket.
