NEW YORK - US stocks opened mixed Monday, with nervous Wall Street investors fretting about oil prices hitting new record highs.
In the first exchanges, the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 1.56 points (0.01 percent) to 10,405.86 and the Nasdaq composite dipped 1.61 points (0.08 percent) to 1,983.20.
With no major economic news on tap, the market was concentrating on high oil prices that threaten to crimp economic growth and profits.
Energy markets remained agitated by ongoing concerns over tight gasoline supplies heading into the US summer travel season, with crude futures jumping briefly above 58 dollars a barrel after hitting record highs on Friday.
"We are all so focused on oil that it is running the show and it will be unopposed for investor attention this week," Marc Pado, US market strategist for Cantor Fitzgerald told clients.
