Yartsev resigns as Russia coach

MOSCOW - Georgy Yartsev has quit as Russia coach, Russian Football Union (RFU) spokesman Andrei Tarabrin confirmed on Monday.
Newly-elected RFU chief Vitaly Mutko had hinted that Yartsev would unlikely to stay on following the team's poor start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Mutko refused to disclose the name of a possible new manager, adding however that a foreign coach may take over.
Yartsev was repeatedly criticised following a humiliating 7-1 defeat at the hands of Portugal in a 2006 World Cup qualifier.
Russia are third in their qualifying Group 3 with 11 points from six matches, three points behind co-leaders Portugal and Slovakia.
