MUNICH, Germany - Bayern Munich are confident that striker Roy Makaay can shrug off a thigh injury to face Chelsea in Wednesday's Champions League showdown at Stamford Bridge.
The 31-year-old Dutch international suffered a recurrence of his thigh injury during Bayern's 3-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday and was forced to leave the field after 56 minutes.
Makaay, a record 18.75 million euro signing from Deportivo La Coruna, could not train on Sunday but Bayern are confident he will win the fitness race.
"I believe Roy will be 100 percent fit for Chelsea on Wednesday," explained Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness.
Peruvian international Claudio Pizarro is already out of the Chelsea game making Makaay's presence against the English Premiership leaders all the more important.
"I just hope Roy can make the match on Wednesday," said manager Felix Magath. "We will do as much as we can to make sure he is ready."
Makaay is the club's top-scorer in this season's Champions League with seven goals and scored seven out of Bayern's eight goals in last season's campaign.
