Surprise Visitor at Incirlik

A close personal friend and collegue of US President George W. Bush's, Republican Senator James Inhof, made a surprise visit to the US military base at Incirlik yesterday. It was noted that the visit was made right before a decision emerges from Ankara regarding permission for the US to use the base for a wider range of activities.
Joining Inhof on the visit was US Ambassador to Turkey, Eric Edelman, who is himself expected to be named by Bush as a replacement for the departing Douglas Feith as Undersecretary of the US Defense Department.
Inhof and Edelman together inspected the prefabricated housing on the base at Incirlik, which right now have the capacity for taking on around 3,000 more people. These houses will be fillen if and when Incirlik starts to have wider use by the US.
