US soldier killed in Iraq bomb blast

BAGHDAD - A US soldier was killed late Sunday in a bomb blast outside the Iraqi refinery town of Baiji, 200 kilometres (153 miles) north of Baghdad, the US military said.
"One Task Force Liberty soldier was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated around 6:45 pm on April 3. The attack occurred near Baiji," the statement read.
The death brings to 1,529 the number of US military personnel who have died in Iraq since the US-led invasion two years ago, according to a tally based on Pentagon figures.
