ERDOGAN: THE CATS WON
HURRIYET- Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that he was not upset for being portrayed as a cat in a newspaper drawing recently. ''I was offended because the editorial drawing showed a cat that was playing with religious high schools. There are circles who want to hurt our administration with baseless allegations.''
MUMCU: ''WE WILL NOT RESPECT THOSE WHO WISH TO BE SULTANS''
HURRIYET- The new leader of the Motherland Party Erkan Mumcu has said that his party will not respect those who wish to be sultans. ''We have no respect for individuals trying to become sultans. Mr. Prime Minister, what you are holding is not a toy; it is stability. You play with stability and you shall get burned.''
''TAIWAN MODEL TO CYPRUS''
MILLIYET- Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''the United States carries out political relations with Taiwan, which it does not recognize, through China,'' noting that, ''we will carry out political relations with southern Cyprus, whom we will set up economic relations, through Greece.''
FIRST SNOW THEN SPRING
MILLIYET- Although spring started in Turkey, cold and rainy weather still continue.
Snow will continue in central Anatolian and Eastern Anatolian regions on Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures will start to increase throughout Turkey starting as of the beginning of the week.
A BIG GOAL OF ERDOGAN
SABAH- Turkish Prime Minister has told that his administration's goal is to make Turkey a member of the United Nations Security Council in the next three years. ''Our trips are planned to gather support for Turkey's membership in the UN Security Council.''
ANAP ELECTS MUMCU AS ITS NEW LEADER
SABAH- The Turkish Motherland Party (ANAP) has elected its new leader, Erkan Mumcu, during an extraordinary convention in Ankara yesterday (Saturday). Mumcu received all of the votes (852) from ANAP delegations. Mumcu said that his party will prepare a global vision for Turkey.
IMF'S ECONOMIC TERRORISM
CUMHURIYET- ''Years with IMF'' report of Ankara, prepared by Ankara Chamber of Trade (ATO), revealed that Turkey's debts increased by 129 percent in the past five years during when International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs were implemented.
ATO Chairman Sinan Aygun said, ''Turkey had to face economic terrorism of the IMF.''
PERMISSION WILL BE GIVEN TO UNITED STATES FOR INCIRLIK
CUMHURIYET- Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said a positive reply would be given to the requests of the United States for Incirlik Base.
Replying to the questions of parliamentarians, Gul said the permission would be within the scope of the UN criteria.
Gul stressed that relations with the United States continued within the framework of cooperation.
A BACKWARD PROGRESS
RADIKAL- Although Turkey was one of the first countries to permit voting by women and election of female candidates among the countries in its region, Turkey now has fewer female politicians as compared to such countries as Bangladesh and Uganda. The Turkish Association to Encourage Female Candidates (KADER) has announced that its goal is to reserve at least 30 percent of all political seats to women.
''GENOCIDE'' INITIATIVE FROM GOVERNMENT
TURKIYE- All historical documents will be disclosed in studies coordinated by high level state officials. It will be revealed to local and foreign researchers that allegations of Armenian genocide were a lie.
Turkish Foreign Ministry and National Security Council will pioneer the studies.
Archives of the Ottoman Empire, particularly pertaining to Southeastern Anatolia will be presented to local and foreign media. A symposium will be held in Ankara where worldwide famous scientists will participate.
MUMCU PERIOD IN ANAP
TURKIYE- Isparta parliamentarian Erkan Mumcu was elected as leader of Motherland Party (ANAP) on Saturday.
Mumcu was elected as ANAP leader with 852 votes of party members at the 4th extraordinary Congress of ANAP.
CLASH IN BINGOL: ONE VILLAGE GUARD DIES
ZAMAN- One village guard died, three soldiers and another village guard were wounded in the clash with terrorists in rural areas of Genc town of eastern Bingol city on Saturday.
Security forces confronted a group of terrorists in rural part of Guzeldere village of Genc town during their operation. In the fire opened by terrorists, one village guard died, one officer, two privates and another village guard were wounded.
The wounded soldiers have been hospitalized and operations are underway to capture the terrorists.
ERDOGAN: ''WE WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE OF HEADSCARF WITH A NATIONAL COMPROMISE''
YENI SAFAK- Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan has remarked that the issue of headscarf for women will get resolved through a national compromise, agreement. ''There are some important signs in this direction.''
SIGN OF TURKISH ART VICTIM OF OCCUPATION IN IRAQ
YENI SAFAK- The Great Mosque in the Iraqi city of Samarra got badly damaged as a result of a missile attack. The mosque has a very special style and was erected to celebrate Turkish justice in the region.
